About us
The Old Printing Office is a family run business in the heart of the beautiful market town of Llandovery, Carmarthenshire. The building dates back to the 1700s and housed one of the first printing presses in Wales, producing historic tomes such as Brutusiana, an example of which is on display. The surviving printing press machinery was donated to the National Museum of Wales and can be seen on display from time to time in St Fagans and other heritage centres.
We’ve been open since 1977, and have recently expanded so that we could open the café, which has outdoor seating overlooking the garden. Please visit our café page for a sample menu page which will give you a taster of the type of seasonal, home cooked food we serve along with a selection of tempting cakes and desserts.
In the shop area there is a huge variety of gifts, a tempting cabinet full of luxury Belgian chocolates and women’s clothing and accessories – some that you will have heard of and some that we hope to be able to introduce you to for the first time. Check out the ‘What We Sell’ page for a small sample of what we stock, but come visit us in person and we’re sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much else there is – there’s nothing ‘minimal’ about our shop space! Once you’ve worn your new clothes and they need a bit of a clean, or you need a laundry service, you can bring them to the shop as we are agents for Dyfed Dry Cleaning and Laundry and pick them up a few days later. In addition to the shop and café we offer a picture framing service. We think this is a bit special—our framer, Howell Whitney, has framed just about everything you could ever want to hang on a wall—from signed rugby shirts, to hugely valuable oil paintings and hard-earned exam certificates. Check out our dedicated gallery page to see some of the examples his work.
